Thanksgiving with the Herms

Thanksgiving was awesome! I absolutely loved it. It was relaxing and great to be with Darryl and Sue. Here is the gist of the break…
Woke up early EVERY single day…my body doesn’t understand “sleeping in”
Played racquetball a couple times
Went running a few times with the dog
Ate an AWESOME dinner with the Hermann’s
“Had a spa” at aunt Robyn’s house...we were cleansing
Saw Blind Side with cousin Aaron and extremely prego wife Kathy
(Blind Side was amazing by the way)
Rode the rip stick
Beat Jason in Around the World at the church gym (I made the shot from half court!)
And lastly, Jason, Darryl and I braved the 41 degree water and WAKEBOARDEDin the dry suit…AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this Thanksgiving. Of course I missed my own family…but I am one of those lucky girls who married into a family that is soooo stinkin’ wonderful that I don’t sit and miss my family all day. I am so grateful for family!

I am my Mother's daughter.

Last night after Stake Choir practice and Stake Priesthood Leadership training Jason and I scurried home, made cupcakes and then sped over to Miriam and Nick's home. (Mimi was Miriam Hill just for family members reference.) America used-to-be-Ruggeri was there with her new husband as well. We ate dinner and just chatted about life, funny stories, family, Sylvia being completely tone deaf, etc. Then somehow we got on the topic of being intoxicated and I decided to share some recently acquired knowledge from my boss. Here is how it started, "So my boss told me at work that most people who get pulled over and get IUD's aren't even-" I was cut off right there by Mimi who so graciously wanted to clarify, "IUD's???!!! You can get those while driving?" I just sat there confused but then everyone started laughing and Jason giggled and shook his head at me...then it all came together. I turned bright red and laughed my head off. I sure am glad the hysterics didn't push a little toot out....that would have been horrible. We probably wouldn't have gotten an invite to hang out ever again. But anyway...after we all got a good chuckle I corrected myself with "DUI" and finished the story. (P.S. An IUD is an intra-uterine device...it's a form of birth control.)

I guess I am just realizing more and more each day that I am a replica of my mother. I clean the same way as her, I am a little pushy like her, I screw up words like her, I love to laugh like her, etc. I only hope that I can grow to be the selfless, tender-hearted, loving, talented, and beautiful mother/friend/wife that she is. So it isn't even Mother's Day...but today I am grateful for my momma.

Some Updates

So, I haven’t updated in a while…but not too many people read this anyway so I am sure my small crowd is overjoyed about this new post. Halloween happened…we didn’t do much. Because we are both so stinkin’ busy we stayed home and had a movie marathon. We (and by “we” I mean “I”) handed candy out to trick-or-treaters which was fun. I was amazed at the shamelessness attitude of some of the parents. One mother came to the door, not wearing a costume or anything, and said, “Trick or treat?!” I looked around for her kid and there wasn’t one to be found. She pointed up the few stairs and on the sidewalk was a stroller with a NEWBORN in it!!! REALLY? That candy is for your child that can barely keep formula down? I just giggled and handed her ONE piece of candy. I was a bit stingy with her, but I felt like I was vindicating the baby who was clearly being used by it’s own mother. It was pretty funny…what some people will do for a little bit of candy.

The next day was Fast Sunday (always a fave) and church was great. We went home to the smell of a slow cooking roast, AMAZING! I made mashed potatoes, corn, Cran-Rasberry Jell-O salad, and a green salad. All wonderful! This was my best roast and potatoes since we’ve been married. It was wonderful. Meals like that always remind me of home and cooking with Mom and Dad on Sunday evenings. The only thing we were missing was rolls. Good, good day. I figured a meal like that deserved some spotlight on the blog….kind of a roundabout way to compliment myself.

Tourney has started for soccer intramurals. My girls team has not played yet but Jason’s team has had two games now. One was last Saturday and one was last night. I think I look forward to those games more than Jason does. I literally think about them all week. I get so riled up watching Jason and Cody play. The team is REALLY good and it’s just a blast to watch. My first game is tomorrow. We better win…or I will probably be pretty dang ticked. We’ve got a good team when everyone shows up. A few inexperienced people but I say they hold their own.

Hopefully I will get some pictures up soon. Honestly, blogs are quiet boring without the pictures. I have more updates…but when I feel like typing some more I will add them.

Destructo Boy

Today I went to the dentist before work. That was my first mistake. I had to get a bunch of fillings because the sealants that I had gotten before were basically causing cavities which is the complete opposite of what they are supposed to do. Go figure. Anyway… they spend fifteen minutes numbing me up. He asked me if I wanted the laughing gas and I told him that I am the designated driver for myself…so, no thanks. They put all the stingy shots in and the first one always pinches a little TOO hard, but I made it. After my cheek, chin, tongue, teeth, etc. were completely oblivious to anything…they began drilling. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST SOUND/SMELL EVER. Drilling into decay? SICK. Nasty job, I must say. There were four teeth that Super Dentist had to save, and this tooth saving is not a short process. Luckily there is a new invention that just held my mouth open for the most part. I really appreciated it actually. He drilled for like 30 minutes…my brain felt like it was rattling so much that it was going to ooze out of my ears. Luckily, that did NOT happen. But, I admit that for a little bit I got pretty dang scared that I might die…you know…I always assume the worst. So the second I got a break I text Jason to tell him how much I love him. Pathetic? Sweet? I haven’t decided yet.

Dentist Destructo finally finished and allowed me to shut my mouth for a little bit but then tried to have a conversation with me. Really? My mouth is completely numb and I am talking out of one side of my mouth as the other side lays completely still, unwilling to join in the conversation. I look stupid, I know this already. I finally walk in to work and my boss, sweet Katy, say, “Well MaShay, you can only stay if you don’t drool all over everyone.” Thanks Katy, such a sweetheart.

The programmers all came in to make fun of me and tell me I looked really really “happy.” I don’t know what they meant, but it can’t be too good. But the feeling is slowly returning as I type and I am feeling more and more pain as a result. I’m fine with that.

Moral: Go to the dentist AFTER work.
